Rose Cottage opened its doors on 2 June 1984 with a simple aim — the best veterinary care, with proper client service. We’re still here. Still independent. Still doing it ourselves.
Rose Cottage Veterinary Centre opened its doors on 2 June 1984, with the aim to provide the best veterinary care coupled with excellent client service. Forty years on, the practice has grown, but continues to have that personal touch.
We are the only practice in Cheshire to provide care for such a wide variety of animals — fish, reptiles, birds, small mammals, dogs, cats, horses, farm animals and zoo animals.
While virtually all of the surrounding practices have been taken over by large corporate organisations, we continue to be an independent practice serving the local community. Rose Cottage is owned by one vet, Joe Martin, our sole director. We are not part of any corporate group.
The book stops with us. Every clinical decision is made in-house.Joe Martin, Owner & Director
Most of the practices around us have been bought by large corporate groups. We haven’t. Rose Cottage is still owned by the people who work here, and that matters — because when the responsibility for getting it right sits with the owners, the decisions you make are different.
Our team has been together a long time. Our Head Nurse joined in 1986. Our Deputy Head Nurse joined in 1992. Several of the vets and nurses have been here for over a decade. That kind of continuity means we know the pets, we know the families, and we’ve seen the long arc of care that proper veterinary medicine needs.

For years we were known as the affordable practice. We were proud of that — and we’ll always be transparent about price. But the work we do now is more involved than it used to be: higher standards of medicine, more diagnostics, more time per consultation. We’ve moved to properly priced services that reflect the quality of care.
Our Premier Pet Care Plan still saves most clients between £500 and £600 a year. We’re not the cheapest. We’re not volume-driven. We’re the practice that picks up the phone at 3am.
